Institutional Repository: Task Force phase [Active from October of 2004 to
August of 2005]
Membership: Stephanie Haas (Chair), Peter McKay, Suzy Covey, Winston Harris,
Vernon Kisling, Cathy Mook, Carl Van Ness and Priscilla Williams.
The charge for this phase of the project included:

Review existing lists of intellectual products produced by all units
of the University of Florida.

Determine what products are currently being published and in what format,
i.e., print or digitally, and the digital format, e.g., jpg, tiff, pdf,
html. Determine the physical extent of these products. Where necessary,
units will be contacted to verify production. Identify a source for obtaining
copies of the products identified. The information collected in this objective
will be used by the Digital Library Center to determine costs for digitization
and archiving.

Analyze intellectual production in terms of ingesting and archiving feasibility;
in other words, what formats can be processed without major reengineering.
Reference UF ETD acceptable formats and FCLA Digital Archive acceptable
formats. Where products are already being issued in electronic format, determine
what programming and software will be needed to capture the objects for
repository inclusion.

Define potential audience(s) for these materials. The Task Force may
consult with any library staff member or any faculty member or faculty group
as necessary to determine potential uses and audiences of any products identified.

Determine what if any copyright restrictions apply.

Based on its findings, the Task Force will recommend collection management
policies that facilitate the building of the repository.
The group wrote two reports: The major report of the group was written in
January 2005 (13 pages in PDF) while a wrap
up report was submitted in August 2005

The group met frequently and meeting minutes were
kept. The group reported to the Associate Director for Technology Services,
Martha Hruska.
An Implementation Group was charged in August of 2005 to proceed with some
of the recommendations of the Task Force. That group has a web
site as well.
