The Committee recommended the following workshops as part of the Libraries’ Staff Development Curriculum for the 2006/07 Academic Year:
Workplace Skills Series:
Quality Customer Service
Supervisory Challenge (core courses)
Research/Professional Writing
Additional Writing Workshop, i.e. Business Writing, Power Writing
What To Do First When Everything is Important
Stress Management
Facilitation Skills
Project Management
Emotional Intelligence
Safety and Security Series:
CPR Training
Safety Training which includes workshops on ergonomics, fire safety, safety in the workplace and thief prevention
The Committee agreed that:
- The Supervisors’ Discussion Group would be re-established.
- The UF Training and Development Office would be contacted to tailor Customer Service courses to library needs. This will include a the Irate Patron component and Customer Complaints
- Training and Development Office would be asked to offer Supervisory Challenge courses, project management, power writing and stress management workshops here in the Libraries
- The Writing Center be contacted to ascertain if a Research and Professional Writing Course might be offered for the Library Staff
- UPD and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety be contacted to bring safety courses to the Libraries
The Committee will continue to refine this curriculum and begin a discussion on Information Technology Competencies.
