Staff Recognition and Awards Committee Minutes - October 4, 2004

Trudi informed us we had permission to brainstorm for alternative holiday party ideas for this coming season. The elected chair should submit a request to extend the report deadline. We are a standing committee. The committee will decide the term for rotating members.
All committees have webpages. We will submit minutes to this page. Tara will take the minutes.
Holiday party brainstorming
- From some informal polling, members have noted that staff find the previous venues to be poor and there is a wish to separate the staff awards from the party
- Possible venues and ideas for this year
- Emerson Hall
- Reitz Arradondo Room
- Reitz Ballroom
- Friends of Music
- In one of the libraries
- Keene faculty center (late afternoon only)
- Museums – butterfly days at new Lepidoptera Center
- Coffee hours in the libraries
- Deparmental parties
- Information needed from Barbara Oliver
- Can purchases be made on a p-card?
- Elements of a “FUN” holiday party were discussed
- Games
- Better food
- Music
- Relaxed atmosphere
- Discussion of adopting an organization (i.e. having an angel tree)
- Day or Evening party?
Staff Rewards
- Have during spring break
- A convocation with a motivational speaker
- State of the Library address
- Information needed from Barbara Oliver
- As a new autonomous institution, can we give monetary awards?
2004 Holiday Party decisions
- Directors must promptly create a new Holiday Party Committee
- The committee will be given a budget ($1500-$2000, amount based on a portion of total funding for the year.)
- No staff awards at the holiday party
- Create a fun atmosphere
- Lunch time event preferred
There will be no meeting next week. Next meeting tentatively set for October 18 th at 11:00am
Trudi will ask Steve to send us the Resource Services survey questions in the meantime
Ann is going to create a public folder for the committee
It is requested that the directors make a public announcement stating there will be no staff picnic at homecoming this year.
