UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA, MICROFORMS AREA,
SCIENCE
The University of Florida Libraries keeps many of its newspapers and
research collections in a microfilm, microfiche, or microcard format. A
microform copy of a newspaper preserves its content while the newspaper will,
over time, deteriorate. Research collections are generally one-of-a-kind or
rare manuscript or archival materials. An original manuscript collection can
be housed only at one institution, but the material can be shared with other
libraries by means of a micro-copy. Microform also helps in storing and
shelving the documents; a microform copy of a year’s worth of newspapers is
infinitesimally smaller than the collection of actual bound newspapers.
LOCATION: Science Library.
READING/PRINTING: Microform readers and printers are available.
Printing requires a copy card that can be purchased in the Science Library.
