Major Collections/Resources Electronic Journals: Full Text Databases and Guides

     Smathers Libraries subscribes to numerous Internet services that provide access to full-text journals and newspapers, including some history titles. Access is restricted to UF-affiliated persons.

   JSTORA fulltext archive to 100+ scholarly journals in various disciplines, from their beginnings up through several years ago (cutoff date varies depending on agreements with publishers). DOES NOT INCLUDE recent issues/volumes (last few years.)  Includes images, graphs, and other illustrations. Requires Adobe Acrobat software, or JSTOR's own software, available from the site.
             NOTE: The UF Library's print collection of journal titles and volumes included in JSTOR has been sent to STORAGE facilities, but they may be ordered through the Circulation Desk.

    PROJECT MUSEAccess to the fulltext of recent volumes/issues of 100+ scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics.

   LEXIS-NEXIS ACADEMIC UNIVERSEOne of the main features of this database is the file for continually updated fulltext articles from thousands of local, state, national, and international newspapers, some going back twenty years.  Other files contain recent Congressional documents, company profiles and financial reports, business trade journals, and legal databases.

   HARPWEEKFulltext and images of Harper's Weekly, 1857-1877, an influential newspaper of the U.S. Civil War and Reconstruction years. (more description)

                ACADEMIC INDEX (1996-present)Primarily an index to articles and reviews in scholarly journals and popular magazines.  About 25% of the articles are available in fulltext.

               EBSCOAcademic Search Premier: Recent coverage (1990s; some earlier) of articles and book reviews.

               GALEGROUP: Expanded Academic ASAP(1980-current.)Provides access to scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers, with fulltext and images.

               WILSON SELECT PLUSA fulltext resource available via First Search.

      FIRST  SEARCH     (Must be accessed from the UF Libraries Home Page or the list of Quick Links.)  A collection of over 60 databases acquired through Florida's Distance Learning Library Initiative.  Includes resources for the Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts, and Sciences.  (List of databases available)

     HISTORICAL ABSTRACTS(1954-   )   Historical coverage of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada).  Abstracts of articles and citations for dissertations and book/media reviews.

     PCI WEBPeriodical Contents Index.  An electronic index to the Tables of Contents of thousands of periodicals in the humanities and social sciences, from their first issues to the early 1990s.

     INGENTA  An index to articles in over 20,000 multidisciplinary journals  (approximately 11,000,000 articles) published since Fall 1988.Some fulltext.

WEB OF KNOWLEDGEComprises three indexes to scholarly articles and book reviews.  These indexes can be searched individually or in combination: 

Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED)--1945-present
Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)--1956-present
