     Language & Literature

    General Web Sites

Aiming towards comprehensiveness, these "supersites" try to gather the most important related sites on a particular field or area. They include e-texts, library or national catalogs, newspapers online, bibliographies, and so on. They are the electronic equivalent of a bibliography of bibliographies. For French studies the student and researcher should be familiar with the following.

    1. WESSWeb: http://www.lib.virginia.edu/wess/

This is the official site of the Western European Subject Specialists section of the Association of College and Research Libraries. Separate pages are maintained for French studies, in both the humanities and social sciences. Useful for links to national library catalogs, primary sources, newspapers. The links are annotated and keyword searching is possible.

    2. Tennessee Bob's Famous French Links: http://www.utm.edu/departments/french/french.html

Organized by categories related to French language, literature, media, the fine arts. Also covers sites on learning and teaching French, as well as Francophone sites. Not annotated but is supposed to include 5,000 links.

    3. General Humanities Page: http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/cm/humanities/

Compiled and maintained by Blake Landor, selector for philosophy, religion and classics, this site provides a comprehensive list of online and electronic resources available at the University of Florida as well as links of interest to all of the humanities.

    4.    Academic Info:  Foreign Language Study:  http://www.academicinfo.net/lang.html

Megasite on foreign language study. Languages are listed alphabetically, after meta-indexes and general directories. Under French one finds the following links:

Includes dictionaries, grammars, and online lessons

    University of Texas, Austin

"…intended to allow you to understand written French…and to write a letter to a French friend or correspondent."

"…to provide resources to our students studying French at the B.A. and M.A. levels. Links are provided below to educational, municipal and government sites which provide free resources on France and Francophone countries."

Maintained by Bill Griffin, Appalachina State University

A general academic listing of French Studies but does offer sections on learning French, dictionaries, electronic newspapers and journals.

Maintained by Alan Keig, Research Librarian for French Studies, University of Adelaide
