Resources on Geography, Mapping, and Imaging in Africa

Exciting things are happening with Africana in the Map & Imagery Library. We are highlighting rare and antique maps with images and a guide to African map-related resources, and promoting the excellent quality research and teaching collections available to support African-related activities at UF. Digitized examples of contemporary and antique African maps are provided.

This page has been divided into five parts:

The wind rose is from the 1598 Tabvla geograregni Congo. The elephants, ape, and ostriches are from Olfert Dapper's 1690 AEthioipia Svperior vel interior vulgo Abissinorvm live Presbiteriioannis Imperivm (Original map by Jan Blaeu in Grooten Atlas published 1660). The sailing ship is from the 1680 map of Africa by Frederik de Wit, Totius Africae Accuratissima Tabula and the sea monster at right is from Ortelius' (?) Africae propriae tabvla.
