BIBCO Annual Report
October 2003 - September 2004
The number of BIBCO contributions decreased again this fiscal year from a monthly average of 127 (fy 03) to 118 (fy 04). We submitted 983 Full and 315 Core level records for a monthly average of 89 and 29, respectively. Based on our priorities for the past two years to support the implementation of the new library management system ALEPH, this decrease did not come as a surprise. As catalogers shifted their workflow to include data load review, testing and training activities as appropriate, they had less time for cataloging overall, which probably impacted the decision to catalog a record for BIBCO or not. Incoming BIBCO copy from other libraries is handled as DLC and follow the same cataloging guidelines for cataloging DLC copy. This routine saves catalogers lots of time.
Effective July 1, 2004, Priscilla Williams is the new BIBCO Coordinator at UF in place of Jimmie Lundgren. As coordinator for the past five years (1999-2004), Jimmie spearheaded the library's participation in the BIBCO Program, which included writing annual reports in the summer and in the fall, reporting monthly statistics, spot-checking our records, consulting with our catalogers, and participating in BIBCO and PCC meetings during ALA. She completed a term as member of the BIBCO Operations Committee at the end of Sept. 2003. On August 11, 2003 Jimmie presented a "BIBCO Review and Update" for all UF BIBCO catalogers. She has done an excellent job as coordinator and I look forward to her continued support and guidance as we continue BIBCO participation at UF.
