How to Connect to Other Library Catalogs


Aleph's Z39.50 functionality allows for connecting to other library catalogs to search and derive records. Connections exist for the Library of Congress and the State University Libraries (SUL).  SUL already migrated to Aleph are not currently accessible through the Aleph client.  Additional libraries can be included as needed.  

To search other catalog
Open Search Module
Use File--Connect to and choose alternative catalog to search
Open keyword search box
Use search options to search for title in alternative catalog

To derive record into Aleph
Locate record

Push record to Catalog Module

With record displayed in Catalog Module, type ctrl n (or File--Duplicate record)
Remove 9XX fields on derived record

Do not remove SID field
Click icon to save to server (or File--Save on Server and Local File)

Change OWN code if necessary and save to server again

To set up a connection to RLIN

In the Search module, use the Options menu to choose Database

When window appears, click Yes to continue

From Database List window, click Add

Fill in the following information:

Full Name: RLIN Union Catalog

Database Name: RLG

Library: EXT01 [zero and one are the last two digits]

Click Ok to close the Database Information window

Click Close to close the Database List window

Use File/Connect to ... menu option from the GUI Search module to connect to RLIN
