Userid and password
The Cataloger's Desktop userid and password is a multi-user logon used by staff in Smathers Libraries, the Health Science Center Library, and the Legal Information Center. See your supervisor to obtain the userid and password.
Pop-up blocker
To determine if your computer is configured to block pop-up windows, check your browser's preferences. In Mozilla, click Tools/Options/Web Features/Block Popup Windows.

Start Over
Click the Start Over button to return to default view at logon
Table of Contents
- Move frame by dragging to right or left
- Click on resource title (or its folder icon) to open it in the right-hand frame
- Open in new window if desired (Web resources automatically open in new window)
- Browse tab displays Table of Contents
- Document tab hides Table of Contents
- Use Reset button to change view of resource list
- Use Categories button to view the resources by pre-set categories
Preferences
Click Preferences tab to set personal preferences for the resource list display
Searching
- Quick search - use search box in top right-hand corner of screen
- Advanced search - click Advanced Search in quick search window or click Search tab
- Click Search Tips for help with entering search terms
- Click in box next to resource to limit search
AUTOCAT (electronic discussion list for catalogers)
To include AUTOCAT in search queries:
- Subscribe to the list
- Choose NOMAIL subscription option if you don't want to receive list mail
- Submit password to U.Buffalo e-mail list system

Bookmarks
- Use to save document section for later retrieval
- With section displayed, click Bookmark icon (might need to click Document tab to see Bookmark icon)
- Click Bookmarks tab to view list of bookmarks
Logout
Click Logout tab to terminate session. If Logout tab is not clicked, the session will time out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
