Processing
New Monographs
1.
Discharge the books.
2.
Non-AFA books as identified through the discharge process should be
routed to the appropriate library.
3.
Sort out items to be sublocated.

Oversize.
Use measure to determine if item is oversized.
-
Reference.
Items which include in title words like 'dictionary', 'code', 'index',
'standard'. Sometimes 'handbook', 'guide'. If in doubt, ask.

Special
collections. Formerly 'rare'.
-
Theft-prone
items such as materials with insecure binding (notebooks,
loose plates, etc.).

Combos,
such as books with disks, etc.
4. From
holdings screen,
-
Identify
if item is book or serial. Give serial items to Sr.LTA for Technical
Services.

Remove
IPC (in process code) in NOTE field.
-
Verify
price. If over $150, place with items to be sublocated (Non-Circulating).
5. Insert
AFA Library bookplate inside front cover of the book.
6.
Insert appropriate circulation slip inside back cover of the book:

(thesis one-week slip) (LD1780 or LD1780.1 call numbers)

7.
Sensitize the book. If the sensitizer does not 'click' or flash, place
on Circ Desk processing shelf with note 'target'.
Do not sensitize/desensitize any nonbook format
(videos, disks, etc.)
8.
Shelve

books
to be sublocated on Sublocation shelf, with note, in Room 207.

non-sublocated
new books on New Books display. Remove older New Books and place
on appropriate shelf on TBS shelves.
9. Update
Statistics sheet.
