A.  MANAGEMENT

Administration, Personnel, & Support
1. Create and maintain administrative reports, such as for budget, accreditation, equipment needs.

2. Keep and maintain annual statistics.
.....Activity: Identify areas of statistics-keeping and means of reporting.
3. Hire, train, and evaluate staff.
.....Activity: Revise staff orientation manual.
.....Activity: Revise staff job descriptions.
4. Promote effective communication within library and externally.
.....Activity: Organize regular staff meetings.
.....Activity: Promote AFA's 'web' calendar.
5. Establish documented policies and procedures.

6. Identify and provide supplies required for staff work or patron use.
7. Receive and distribute incoming mail.
.....Activity: Organize internal mail distribution for generic items like publisher catalogs.
8.  Create and maintain forms required for all operations.
    Activity:  Make PDF versions of all forms to facilitate standardization & use.


B.  COLLECTION MANAGEMENT

1. Communicate with constituencies about library issues and information needs.
.....Activity: Prepare & distribute Fall semester newsletter for AFA community.
2. Document clientele library needs in a collection statement.
.....Activity: Write collection statements for program areas and Reference.
3. Select resources according to identified needs from approval plans, gifts, selected vendors, and other sources.

                 dealers.


C.  PUBLIC SERVICES

Reference and Instruction
1. Provide reference assistance or make appropriate referrals for queries received in person, by phone, by correspondence, or by email.

2. Provide publications and displays about information resources and their use to facilitate instruction and independent research.

.....Activity: Create print and online handouts on reference tools and web resources.
.....Activity: Revise AFA Library map.
.....Activity: Plan and implement program for library display case.
3. Instruct users in finding information in one-to-one as well as structure group environments.

Circulation Services
1. Check out library materials.
2. Check in library materials.
3. Place item needed requests for library patrons.
4. Search for missing/lost items.
5. Process overdues, fines, and billing.
 

Reserve Reading
1. Create and service a course reserve collection.

Collection Maintenance
1. Shelve library materials returned at Circulation Desk.
2. Pick up and shelve library materials used throughout the building.
3. Maintain shelf order through shelfreading and maintenance.
.....Activity: Develop written plan to shelfread entire collection throughout the year.
4. Facilitate collection use and growth through periodic shifting and transfer of materials to storage.


D.  TECHNICAL SERVICES

New Materials Processing
1. Check in new materials received in all formats.
.....Activity: Revise processing procedures.
2. Process uncataloged materials.

Preservation and Binding
1. Bind serials currently received on a systematic basis.
2. Identify monographs and non-current serials needing repair; send for binding.
 

Catalog Record Maintenance
1. Create or revise records for library materials to enable better access to resources.
.....Activity: Reclass Oversize collection.
.....Activity: Create provisional records for HABs drawings & photographs.
2. Create and link item records to enable circulation of materials.
3. Update volume holdings information to reflect accurately library holdings.
.....Activity: Update volume holdings on all serial records.
4. Resolve bibliographic record problems.
.....Activity: Correct Special Collections records involved in transfer.


E.  FACILITIES

Facilities & Equipment
1. Provide appropriately defined and environmentally sound spaces for library functions.
.....Activity: Plan and organize use of library space.
2. Identify equipment needs and provide equipment
.....Activity: Prepare equipment needs inventory.
3. Educate staff & users in proper conduct for library use.
.....Activity: Update signage and website.
4. Educate staff & users in proper use of equipment
.....Activity: Prepare point-of-use guides for library equipment.

Signage
1. Provide signage for library stacks, equipment, service points, entrance/exits, special areas and office spaces.
.....Activity: Recommend signage needs.
2. Provide temporary signage at the Circulation Desk and Bulletin Board according to guidelines.
.....Activity: Develop and implement temporary signage/display guidelines.


F.  SYSTEMS

1. Provide functioning computer systems for public and staff use.
.....Activity: Define systems support roles for library staff and train accordingly.
2. Maintain documentation about computer equipment, software, and networking via AFA's systems page.
3. Provide software as required.
