Basic Skills and Training:

Knowledge of AFA Library and collection

Knowledge of AFA policies and procedures

Knowledge of all AFA sublocations

Knowledge of LUIS technical and public modes

Basic understanding of microcomputer applications

Understanding of Dewey and LC classification
systems

Understanding of AFA policies/procedures regarding
the use of telephone, photocopy machine, etc.

Knowlege of AFA procedures and locations concerning
the collection/distribution of mail.

Ability to charge and discharge materials
using the NOTIS circulation system.
-
Ability to work harmoniously with other AFA
staff
-
Ability to work courteously with the public.

Must be dependable (on-time, etc.)
Responsibilities:
The Binding Processing Assistant
is responsible for preparing serial titles to be bound, identifying and
searching for missing issues, processing bound serials returned from the
bindery, and maintaining bound serials (targeting, labeling, etc.).
Duties:
All Staff:

Observes library policies and procedures applicable
to the position.

Helps to maintain the library as an environment
conducive for study and research by ensuring that policies concerning conduct,
eating, drinking, etc. are observed.

Answers telephone and routes calls as appropriate.
-
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Binding Assistant:
-
Assists in the gathering of serial issues
to be bound.
-
Prepares serials to be bound. This process
includes: (a)inserting appropriate binding slip into volumes, (b)
inserting appropriate leaf attachment, if listed, (c) charging out items
to bindery, (d) performing routine volume holdings updating, (e)
changing receipt lines to note lines on order records for volumes to be
bound, and (f) packing and labeling binding boxes.

Searches for serial issues that are missing
and/or needed for binding.

Inserts missing issue slips in Current Periodical
boxes and/or volumes to be bound, when appropriate.

Processes (charges,labels,stamps, targets,shelves,
etc.) newly bound serials received by the AFA Library
-
Updates bound serials processing statistics.
-
Files binding slips.
-
Shelves newly bound serials.
-
Updates binding notebooks of sent and returned
items
-
Updates binding information in serials database.
-
Maintains bound serials as needed, i.e., targeting,labeling,
setting aside for rebinding, etc.
-
Keeps binding processing supplies stocked,
and areas neat.
