Reference Assistance
Basic reference assistance is provided at the AFA Library service desk during all hours of operation.
Professional assistance from librarians is normally available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Contact Ann Lindell or Tom Caswell at 352-273-2805. Specialized assistance may be obtained by appointment, or via phone, correspondence or email. AFA Librarians also participate in Ask A Librarian, the UF Libraries' virtual reference chat service.
Individual research consultations with a librarian are available by appointment.
Library Instruction
Librarians are available for scheduled tours and customized classes in using library resources. Instructors are encouraged to schedule these sessions for their students. It is particularly effective to schedule these sessions to coincide with research and writing assignments. Contact Ann Lindell or Tom Caswell to schedule a class.
Handouts and Guides
There are numerous handouts and guides available which describe AFA's reference sources and resources throughout the library system. Web-based subject guides are available on the AFA Library home page. Printed guides to reference resources are located in the Reference area and at the Circulation Desk, and many of these are available in PDF format on the home page.
Reference Collection
The Reference Collection holds about 2,000 titles consisting of dictionaries and encyclopedias, indexes, selected handbooks and manuals, directories, codes and standards, and other sources of value to architectural, construction, and visual arts researchers. Most bibliographies are located in the open stacks.
Many reference sources are provided in electronic formats. The AFA Library Home Page highlights key resources for art, design, and building. The Databases page provides a gateway to other electronic resources available to the UF community.
