2:00-3:00pm Thursday
July 18th, 2002
In attendance:
Cathy Mook, Doug Kiker, Bobby Parker, Dee Hawes, Paul
Losch, Marie Kennedy, David Hickey.
· Discussed the Library West
Addition. The Technical Services
Steering Committee announced that the new building would be smaller than
previously announced: from 120,000 sq. ft to 60,000 sq. ft. Due to this
reduction in space, the materials in LAD will stay there. The time frame for
the addition has been pushed back and no start date has been set. The current
thought is that the construction will not conflict with the conversion to the
new LMS.
· The Dewey / LC reclassification
project will continue with biographies. The priority of the reclassification
project is Area Studies.
· Discussed the mold outbreak at LAD
which was discovered the week of July 9th – 13th.
· Version 15.2 of the LMS is available
for download. It is difficult to use. Everyone should look at it as it relates
to his or her workflow. We are currently working on a test load: 46 titles of
weeklies to see the relation of “charged to bindery” items. The date for the
test load is projected to be August.
· Back Orders and Claiming:
Gifts
Cannot back order
Can Claim
Back
Orders
$50.00 is the limit for ordering one
item.
Question to group: Should selectors
be notified if the cost is over $50.00. The consensus is yes. Doug will ask
Carol if she is consulting selectors on whether to go over the $50.00 limit.
· Backlog and Periodicals
The binding unit has worked on the
backlog for about 3 months and has made good progress. We are now concentrating
on current periodicals and only pulling one or two backlog items at a time.
· The PIG and A -Team schedules and
meeting locations were discussed as well as the website responsibilities.
Pig will rotate between East and
West.
A - Team meeting location will
rotate among the Branches.
· Resource Services will be
responsible for the PIG website while Preservation will administer the A-Team
website.
Minutes:
PIG minutes will go to Doug
A – Team minutes will go to Bobby
· Discussed loose periodicals found in
bound periodical stacks. Dee said that if the MARC records do not have order
records we do not know if the items will be replaced, so the loose issues are
put in the stacks. Loose items should be in a box in the bound stacks when the
“current” box is full. If materials are discovered to be out of place, Dee
should be contacted.
Date for next meeting is Thursday, August 29th.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert Parker
