The addition to and renovation of Library West provides an opportunity to bring the humanities and social science collections together in ways that will facilitate access and use. We anticipate significant changes in the way our collections will be classified and housed in the new facility. These include:

• Reclassifying all materials classified in Dewey Decimal classification to Library of Congress classification
• Bringing together Area Studies materials into four separately maintained, but proximate areas
  • African
  • Asian
  • Judaica
  • Latin American
• Integrating periodicals with monographs and serials

• Analyzing the specific elements of tasks to be undertaken
• Developing a general list of priorities
• Creating schedules and work plans
• Developing programs for communicating progress to library staff and users
• Appointing working groups and monitoring their progress as they
  • Complete collection reviews to weed duplicate and other unneeded materials
  • Identify materials for Area Study collections
  • Reclass Dewey materials to LC classification
  • Make changes in catalog records
  • Make changes in physical labels for materials
  • Move, shift, and integrate materials
